The Franklin Fire in Malibu has grown significantly, now covering more than 853 acres. It was first reported late on Monday night and has been rapidly spreading due to strong Santa Ana winds, with gusts reported up to 45 mph. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for areas east of Malibu Canyon Road and south of Piuma Road, including the Serra Retreat neighborhood. Pepperdine University has activated its shelter-in-place protocol, directing students and staff to remain in the Tyler Campus Center or Payson Library. The fire has led to the closure of portions of Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu Canyon, and Mulholland Highway. Firefighting efforts are intensified with both ground and air resources, but containment remains at 0%. The fire has elicited a "particularly dangerous situation" red flag warning due to the weather conditions, including very low humidity and high winds, which exacerbate the fire's spread.
