  • Injuries and Victims: Four students, aged 15 to 18, were injured. Three were shot, and one was grazed by a bullet. One victim was in serious condition, while the others sustained non-life-threatening injuries. All were transported to local hospitals—three to Baylor Scott & White Health and one to Methodist Hospital Dallas in Oak Cliff.

  • Emergency Response and Evacuation: Dallas police, Dallas ISD police, Dallas Fire-Rescue, ATF agents, and other agencies responded around 1:00 p.m. CDT after an active shooter call. The school was secured by 2:12 p.m., and students were evacuated, some with hands up, to Eagle Stadium for reunification with parents, who were required to show photo ID. All students and staff were reported safe, and reunification was completed by 5:00 p.m.

  • Suspect Status: The suspected shooter, believed to be a student, remains at large as of the latest reports, with police actively searching. Preliminary information suggests the incident was student-on-student violence, not a random active shooter event. No arrests have been confirmed, and the suspect’s identity has not been released.

  • School Response and Closure: Dallas ISD implemented active shooter protocols, and the campus was closed for the remainder of the week, with a pre-scheduled districtwide closure on Friday and Monday. Mental health professionals are available for students and staff. A baseball game scheduled for Tuesday was postponed.

  • Context and Prior Incident: This incident occurred almost exactly one year after a April 12, 2024, shooting at the same school, where a student shot another in the leg due to a dispute. That event exposed security lapses, including a faulty metal detector and inadequate bag checks. Despite retraining and policy adjustments, concerns about security persist, with students reporting inconsistent use of metal detectors and clear bag policies.

  • Community and Official Reactions: U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett expressed heartbreak, emphasizing that “guns do not belong in our schools” and calling for safer learning environments. A moment of silence was held in the Texas House. Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde described the incident as “unthinkable” and noted its increasing familiarity, highlighting the need for improved safety measures. Parents voiced frustration and fear, with some considering homeschooling.

  • Investigation: The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining how the gun entered the school. Dallas ISD officials stated the weapon did not come through during regular intake, but no failure of staff or protocols was reported. Witnesses reported hearing up to eight gunshots, followed by screaming and chaos.
