Massive Power outage in Puerto Rico on New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve, nearly all of Puerto Rico experienced a massive power outage, affecting more than 1.3 million people. The blackout occurred early in the morning and was attributed to a failure of an underground power line. Initial reports suggest that restoration of power could take up to two days, although some areas had seen power return by the afternoon. The outage has caused significant disruption, especially as the island was preparing for New Year's celebrations. This event highlights the ongoing struggles with the island's power grid, which has been in decline due to years of insufficient maintenance and was further damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017. Governor Pedro Pierluisi has been in communication with Luma Energy and Genera PR, demanding swift solutions and transparency in the restoration process.
