  • 1199: King Richard I of England, also known as Richard the Lionheart, died from an infected arrow wound sustained during a siege in France. His death marked the end of a significant reign during the Third Crusade.

  • 1327: The Italian poet Petrarch first saw Laura, a woman he would immortalize in his poetry, in a church in Avignon, France. This encounter inspired some of the most celebrated love poetry in Western literature.
